What You Can Study
Undergraduate Degrees (Bachelor)
Three to four year bachelor programs at German public universities, with hundreds of English taught options particularly in engineering, technology, business, and sciences.
Postgraduate Degrees (Master)
Two year masters programs across a wide range of disciplines, with many programs offered entirely in English at both public universities and Fachhochschulen (universities of applied sciences).
Studienkolleg (Foundation Program)
A one year preparatory course (Studienkolleg) for students whose home country qualification does not directly meet German university entry requirements, leading to the Feststellungspruefung (assessment examination).
Research and PhD Programs
Germany has a strong tradition of research excellence, with PhD programs available at leading institutions in science, engineering, technology, and the social sciences.
What You Will Generally Need
- Completed 12 or 13 years of schooling (FSc plus 2 years of university in some cases, depending on home country)
- Recognized bachelor degree for master level entry
- German language proficiency (TestDaF or DSH) for German taught programs, or English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL) for English taught programs
- Proof of financial means, typically through a blocked account (Sperrkonto)
- Acceptance letter from a German university or Studienkolleg
- German National Visa (Category D) applied for at the German Embassy in your home country
